Lockhart River Primary Health Care Centre

Lockhart River’s Health Care Centre is open Monday-Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. At all other times, emergency only.

This service is supported by a visiting team of allied health professionals including dentists, mental health practitioners, paediatricians, physiotherapists, ophthalmologists and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs counsellors. In addition, the Royal Flying Doctor is on call 24 hours a day to provide medical advice and to conduct emergency evacuations as required. Doctors from the Royal Flying Doctor Service visit Lockhart River two days a week for consultations, which are available by walk-in or prior appointment.

Since 2006, the Apunipima Cape York Health Council has worked in partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service to deliver training to the Health Action Teams (HATs) in Kowanyama, Pormpuraaw, Coen and Lockhart River. Health Action Teams develop Community Health Plans for each community designed to address the needs specifically identified for that community.

We want our community to be physically healthy, with people who are motivated and confident to act responsibly. This requires health services to be focused on prevention, early detection and improved management of health, including addressing chronic disease. One part of this strategy is to encourage residents to come into the clinic on or around their birthday for an annual health check. During this consultation, the team will check your blood pressure, sugars and many other health indicators to ensure that you are as healthy and happy as you could be.
