Chiwu Water Park
The Chiwu Water Park is an initiative of the Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council (LRASC) designed to enhance the amenity and utility of the Sport and Recreation precinct. Funded by LRASC along with investment partners, the Department of State Development’s Building our Regions fund, and the Department of Local Government’s Working for Queensland Fund, the Waterpark provides a safe and accessible place for our kids and the not so young to cool off and exercise (no box jellyfish, sharks or crocs).
With BBQ areas and solar lighting about to go in to complement the wet and dry play surfaces, the Chiwu area will continue to be a popular recreation asset going forward. Its opening is closely linked to school attendance and the closed water system design allows for treatment that should be reflected in a reduction of skin related presentations by children at the clinic over time.
