Fishing Information

As Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) is a national park, fishing is not permitted at any time in the freshwater rivers or creeks therein.

The Great Barrier Reef is an internationally significant resource and it is protected as a World Heritage listed site. Zones are in place which regulate which activities, if any, can be conducted on the reef. Prior to planning any fishing or marine activities, consult the relevant zoning information and associated maps. There are significant penalties for not adhering to these conditions. In addition to GBRMP authority zones our community respectfully requests visitors fish at Portland Roads or Chillie Beach. Lloyd Bay and the Lockhart and Claudie Rivers are the main resource gathering areas for our Community and are vital to keeping us healthy. Not only are they are our fridge and freezer but they contain a number of sites of cultural significance to us. For this reason these areas are not available to visitors.
